So You Want To Play Online D&D?

So you want to play Online D&D?

Awesome!  Dungeons and Dragons is a time-honored way to live out your dreams and connect with your friends (something we need now more than ever!)  And unlike when it was developed in the 1970s, nowadays we can do it from our laptops! Pandemonium hosts a number of Dungeons and Dragons games each week, and it’s simply a matter of determining which one is right for you.  You can find them all listed on our Online D&D page

For all campaigns and adventures, just click on the one you’re interested in!  It’ll show what dates are available for a given game, and you can sign up online! Let's go through some of your options:

Is it your first time playing Dungeons and Dragons?  Did you play a long time ago but feel a bit rusty? In that case, you might enjoy Beginner D&D!  These are run for newbies, and if you play all four of the adventures, you’ll have a good idea of how to master the game for future, higher level campaigns!  There’s also a Womxn's Beginner D&D, for those who identify as such and want to play in a safe and welcoming environment. Beginner D&D is on Wednesdays and Womxn’s Beginner D&D is on Tuesdays.  There are pre-made character sheets available, for all types so do some light research on what class you'd like to be!

Are you a little more experienced?  We’ve got several campaigns for you to try!  All are for ages 13+, and we have special campaigns for Womxn and LGBTQ+ players.  For all of them, prepare a character at level 1 unless told otherwise by your Dungeon Master (for instance, if you are dropping into the middle of the game and need to catch up with everyone else.) For those coming back to the game after awhile - Fighters, Rangers and Paladins are among the most straightforward classes in the newest edition!

Want to play with your children?  We’ve got you covered there, too! On Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, you can sign up for Family D&D, for children ages 8 and up when joined by a parent or guardian.  First time players will likely have the best time at a Saturday afternoon game. And be sure to sign up in advance!

Finally, if you have a group of 4 or more players of any age ready to go, you can have one of our Dungeon Masters set up a custom game just for you!  Email
dnd@pandemoniumbooks.com to get started!

At the present time all our games will be online. This means you will need access to the website Roll20 and Google Docs. Roll20 can seem intimidating, but it’s easy to master!  Here are some things to keep in mind:

-Use headphones if you are having trouble hearing the other players.

-You can use the online rolling system, or your own dice at home.

-To make a roll using the online rolling system, type in /roll and then the die and modifier (for example, rolling a twenty-sided die and adding two would be /roll d20+2.)

-Or if you're rolling an attack or a skill check you can click it on your character sheet, and it will roll the dice with the appropriate modifiers included!

-First timers may want to use the tutorial on the website ahead of time, but note that most of the stuff on there is for the Dungeon masters!

-You will need a blank character sheet from your DM before you can fill out your character, unless you’re using a premade character (in which case, your DM will give you that too!)

-It may not run that long, but be prepared for sessions to go for about three hours.

-For a user profile picture, download an image that inspires you off a website like pixabay, then click on your character name on the right bar then click edit and upload the image. (This will default to your character token if the DM hasn't already set a token for that character.)

-If you want to create your own character but are low on inspiration, try using the site http://fastcharacter.com/

Any further questions?  Ask us at dnd@pandemoniumbooks.com. Or if you're signed up for an online session we'll email you a meetup sometime before the game. Have fun!
