The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter

After her mother dies, Mary Jekyll sets off to track down mysterious bank funds and solicit the help of Sherlock Holmes.

Little did she know that this money would lead her to an unexpected sister—and a whole new chosen family.

Her meeting with Holmes brings Mary to a crime scene. As they pursue the murderer and the truth behind Dr. Jekyll's work, they realize that the two cases might be related. But how could Mary's father—dead for 14 years—be involved in what is happening now?

First, Mary and her newly discovered sister (Diana Hyde) meet Beatrice Rappaccini. This brings them to Catherine Moreau and Justine Frankenstein. Together, these women learn more about the Society of Alchemists and its experiments. Can they stop the mad scientists from murdering and experimenting on more people? Can they overcome their "monstrous" differences and become a family?

My inner English major was absolutely delighted with The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter. I loved how these characters interacted with one another and the world around them. I can't wait for the next book.
